About Payam

Payam Shahian, the founder of SLP, graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, cum laude with a B.A. and earned his J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of the Law. He spent the early years of his career at a national defense firm primarily defending Ford Motor Company in consumer warranty claims under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, also known as California’s “Lemon Law.” Frustrated by the imbalance of power between large corporations and individuals, Mr. Shahian decided to represent plaintiffs in 2007 and established Strategic Legal Practices, APC in 2010. His victories on behalf of plaintiffs have been hard-fought, and have even drawn the attention of Ford, his former corporate client. As a result, Ford moved to disqualify Payam from representing consumers bringing breach-of-warranty allegations against Ford. In a precedent-setting decision, the California Court of Appeal held that Ford could not prevent Payam from representing consumers suing Ford, even though he previously represented the car manufacturer against the same type of claim.

Consumers need an advocate on their side to fight against the imbalance of power between large corporations and individuals. That’s where we come in.
